The CONTAX CAMERA and How to Use It
Introduction
The Contax is a miniature camera of the finest mechanical workmanship. Inasmuch as its manipulation differs materially from that of the customary pattern of camera, it is essential to study the instructions thoroughly before using the Contax and to practise the manipulation. The camera is of extremely solid construction, but mistakes in handling it are liable to cause damage.
The film used in the Contax is standard perforated cine-film. The film transport device is directly coupled with the spring tension of the shutter so that double exposures are eliminated. Similarly to the standard roll-film camera the film is wound from the spool on to an empty reel; it therefore only passes the picture gate once. In exceptional cases where the amateur employs film packages which require to be re-spooled, these latter can also be used in the Contax as the camera is equipped with a re-spooling device.
A special feature of the camera is the direct coupling of the range finder with the lens focussing mechanism. The range finder and shutter release are so designed that one hand can easily operate both.
Moreover the Contax is fitted with a focal-plane shutter having a blind of the metal-strip pattern.
Lenses are in bayonet mounts and are thus readely interchangeable.
